Killing Katie An Affair With Murder Volume 1 Brian Spangler Books

This book reminded me a lot of Dexter, with a female lead. While I enjoyed this book and it was entertaining enough to keep me turning the pages, it just didn't have the "oomph" I was hoping for. I am not entirely sure that I will read the other books in the series, I just don't think I care enough about Amy to read the other books.

Killing Katie An Affair With Murder Volume 1 Brian Spangler Books Reviews

*I received this in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! I absolutely LOVED this book!! I love vigilante books, especially when it is a woman who is the vigilante. It was made even better by the fact that she’s married to a detective on the police force. Amy has always had these day dreams of killing, and finally starts to gain the courage to go through with it. Once she decided to go for it, she of course only wants to kill criminals. Even though it was a good thought…it starts a domino effect that spirals out of control extremely fast! It turns into a roller coaster ride that you will love going on. I can’t wait to see the next installment of this series! A huge 5 STARS!!!!
im a natural born cynic, with a hint of optimism, I don't like long revues books are either worth a read if you pay for them or not, ( if the books free then there is a kinda grey area ) ...
but if you like quirky, if you like a book with twists that aren't the usual kind, if you have empathy you will love this book...
I first read Killing Katie as my monthly Prime selection. Recently it was on sale, so I bought it and read it again. This is the first book that I've read by this author and I can't wait to read more in this series! Amy Sholes is a very original character. She's a seemingly "normal" suburban wife and mom of two, who just happens to be overly obsessed with murder and who's married to a detective. She's had dark thoughts about killing her best friend, Katie, since they were both little girls. She's recently started having dreams that may or may not be repressed memories. Her mom and young daughter may have more in common with her than she wants to admit. When she meets a tech-savvy guy at her local library, she discovers she's not the only one with murder on the mind. Will he help or hinder her cause? And how long can she keep lying to her husband? Finding out these answers and all the other gems this book has to offer will keep you guessing, and entertained! I rarely give 5 stars but had no problem doing so for this book. If you're looking for something fresh and original, this is it!!
If you pick up a copy of Killing Katie, hold onto your britches because you’re in for a crazy ride. The novel starts with the two main characters – Steve the cop and his wife Amy the murderer. From that initial premise, the author unreels a sophisticated plot with more twists than an entire package of Twizzlers. My favorite thing about author B.A. Spangler’s writing is the fact that he drops crumbs Amy meets a man at the library. Oh, you think, I know how this character is going to fit in. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Every little crumb turns into another totally unexpected subplot. From the opening scene where Amy is comparing murder to sizzling bacon, to the closing scene where she is gazing appreciatively at a new assassin ring, nothing is what it seems, and these unexpected flips keep the reader riveted to the very end. The story is sexy, quirky and shocking – you’ll love it. And then you’ll order the sequel!
Amy Sholes is the wife of a homicide detective and the mother of two young children. To others, she seems like any other suburban stay-at-home mom. But Amy Sholes is different. Amy Sholes is fascinated by murder. Not fascinated by muder mysteries or crime shows, no, Amy Sholes longs to commit murder. She loves her husband and children. She loves her best friend, Katie, even though she spent much of her childhood dreaming of ways to kill her. Amy knew that wasn't serious. She loves Katie. But she wants to kill someone. Her latest fantasies involve people who deserve to die. Maybe she could even make some money doing this. Then she meets someone who is willing to help her.

I did think of Amy as sort of a female Dexter as I was reading this. But Dexter really had to fake emotions. Amy truly loved her family. Dexter left no evidence behind. Amy is an amateur. Her first feeble attempts rain down trouble on her family and friends. Interconnections bring unforeseen consequences. Lies weave tangled webs. And her husband is no dummy....

Getting into Amy's mind was interesting. I don't know if there are actually "nice" people who long to commit murder but it makes for a good story. I really enjoyed it. And I'm a nice person. Really.

Try it if you like an unusual mystery. I think you'll like it.
I'd give this one ZERO STARS if that were possible. I forced myself to read to the end, which was even worse than the rest of the book. I'm not sure who the author thought the audience would be, or what type of book he was trying to write. The author is a man, and so am I, but in my opinion he does a terrible job of writing a female protagonist. If women are the intended audience, I would think they would be terribly insulted. As a whole, it's a mess, the ultimate plot secret is completely implausible, and so is just about everything else that happens. The main character is simply annoying, she's drunk most of the time, repeatedly zones out or loses control of herself whenever things get difficult, and yet, the reader is meant to believe she fancies herself a hired assassin? She can't even keep it together long enough to make a grilled cheese sandwich! She spe nds a lifetime thinking about different ways to kill someone, and then when she does, she's a sloppy mess. As a police procedural, it was completely lacking in realistic detail. As a thriller, it was just boring. The big payoff as a conclusion? Nope, buy the sequel! Sorry, but no. I'd ask for a refund it I could.
This book reminded me a lot of Dexter, with a female lead. While I enjoyed this book and it was entertaining enough to keep me turning the pages, it just didn't have the "oomph" I was hoping for.
